File Download Instructions: To retrieve the data, download file 20241010_DownloadScript_Lin.txt to your machine, open a command line terminal and run the following command: wget -I 20241010_DownloadScript_Lin.txt For more information on running this command, visit https://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/wget.htm 3. Relationship between files: All files are in the same format. They record different time segments. 4. Additional related data collected that was not included in the current data package: N/A 5. Are there multiple versions of the dataset? No -------------------------- METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION -------------------------- 1. Description of methods used for collection/generation of data: An interrogator connected to the dark fiber that connects from the University of Utah campus to the University of Utah's Downtown Data Center (875 West Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84101). A regular laser pulse is sent through the fiber, and the interrogator measures the strain rate along the fiber that is saved in velocity in m/s. 2. Methods for processing the data: N/A; raw data directly from the sensor is provided. 3. Instrument- or software-specific information needed to interpret the data: Data is acquired using the TERRA15 Interrogator (model: TERRA15 Treble). Requires Python package DASCORE (https://dascore.org/) to read and interpret the data. 4. Standards and calibration information, if appropriate: N/A 5. Environmental/experimental conditions: The interrogator connected from the 1st floor of Frederick Albert Sutton Building (115 S 1460 E) of the University of Utah. This sets distance=0 of the data. 6. Describe any quality-assurance procedures performed on the data: N/A 7. People involved with sample collection, processing, analysis and/or submission: Fan-Chi Lin, HyeJeong Kim (University of Utah) https://noise.earth.utah.edu/ Derrick Chambers (Colorado School of Mines) https://derchambers.com/ ----------------------------------------- DATA-SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR: UoU_downtown_velocity_UTC-YMD20240102-HMS231526.948_seq_00000002193.hdf5 (example) ----------------------------------------- All files have the same format. 1. Number of variables: 3 2. Number of cases/rows: N/A 3. Variable List A. Name: distance Description: Distance from the interrogator. Every step is 4.9 m. Meters (m). B. Name: time Description: Time in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). Every step is 0.001531314 s. Seconds (s). C. Name: velocity Description: Velocity along the dark fiber at a distance and a time. meters per second (m/s). 4. Missing data codes: N/A 5. Specialized formats of other abbreviations used: Each file is in TERRA15 HDF5 format.
